This Up Converter Assembly, P/N UCA2450R1, accepts a 150 to 800 MHz signal at the IF Input port and produces a 2.15 to 2.8 GHz signal at the RF output port.
Refer to Figure 1 during the following explanation. A signal with a frequency less than 1000 MHz connected directly to the RMA3K IF port takes advantage of the IF-RF reciprocal properties to produce the sum of the IF and LO at the RF port. The RF output of the mixer is connected to a 3 dB attenuator which provided a broadband load and isolates the mixer from the out of band impedance variations of the band-pass filter. The band pass filter removes harmonics of the LO generated by the mixer diodes, and signals in the 2.15 to 2.8 GHz range are amplified by approximately 15 dB. The Osc. T.P. provides a sample of the 2.0 GHz power from the VCO2K Oscillator at a -20 dBm level. DC power requirement: 18 volts, 60 mA.

The components of Figure 1 are mounted with spacers to a BUD P/N BPA-1593 bottom plate and RF shielding is provided by a BUD P/N AC-406 chassis secured to the bottom plate with machine screws. The AC-406 chassis inside has a 9 X 7 inch sheet of conductive foam plastic glued to the inside top surface to attenuate the electric field and prevent amplifier oscillation. The assembled unit is shown in Figures 7 - 10.
